Dirt Bike Riding Best Practices & Operating Tips

Protective Gear

Always wear appropriate clothing and protective gear when riding your dirt bike. This gear includes:

 

  • Helmet
  • Gloves
  • Sturdy Footwear
  • Eye Protection
  • Full Length Pants

Pre-Ride Inspection

Conducting a pre-ride inspection can help avoid failure during operation and make sure you stay safe during your ride. Be sure to check the following for wear or improper operation:

  • Oil and Fuel Levels
  • Controls
  • Switches
  • Chains and Chassis

Safe Riding Practices

After you have inspected your bike, it’s time for your ride. Here are some additional tips to make your experience more safe and enjoyable.

 

  • Never ride alone so that you can assist each other in the event of an accident or breakdown
  • Wear bright colored clothing or reflective gear to increase your visibility to others
  • Always carry a first aid kit and tool box with you
  • Watch for hidden objects in the dirt, sand or snow
  • Avoid following other vehicles too closely to increase your visibility and provide a safe distance for stopping
